How Much Does a Website Cost in Bihar and India in 2026?

By Shashi Singh, Founder & Lead DeveloperOctober 20, 20268 min read

In 2026, a simple business website in Bihar or anywhere in India usually costs roughly ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 from a local freelancer, and roughly ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000 from a small agency. Websites with logins, online payments or bookings cost more, often ₹70,000 and up. On top of that, plan for roughly ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 a year for domain and hosting.

That is the short answer. The right number for you depends on what the site has to do. A clinic in Motihari that just needs to show timings and a WhatsApp button needs a very different site from a Patna coaching institute that wants students to log in and pay fees. This guide explains each price level, what you actually get, the yearly costs nobody mentions, and the cheap offers you should avoid.

What you get at each price level in India

DIY website builders (Wix, Hostinger Website Builder and similar)

You pick a template, drag in your text and photos, and pay a monthly or yearly plan. A paid plan with your own domain and no builder ads usually costs roughly ₹250 to ₹1,000 a month, and store plans cost more. This works if you have time, can write your own content, and only need a few simple pages. The catch: you are renting the site. Stop paying and it goes offline, and you usually cannot move it to another host.

Local freelancer: roughly ₹5,000 to ₹25,000

Most freelancers in Bihar build on WordPress with a ready-made theme. For a 5 to 8 page site with a contact form, WhatsApp button and Google Map, this is a fair price range. Quality varies a lot. A good freelancer is great value. The risk is what happens after launch, when you need a change and the person is busy or has moved on.

Small agency or studio: roughly ₹25,000 to ₹1,50,000

Here you should expect a proper design made for your business, faster loading on 4G phones, basic on-page SEO, a written quote, a timeline and some support after launch. The higher end of this range covers sites where you can log in and update content yourself, more pages, Hindi and English versions, or a blog.

Custom web apps and portals: roughly ₹70,000 and above

Once the site needs user logins, fee or order records, online bookings, UPI and card payments, or an admin panel for staff, you are paying for software, not just pages. These projects take weeks, not days, and the price depends on how many features and user types are involved.

What drives the price up or down

Two websites can look similar and still have very different prices. These are the things that actually change the quote:

  • Number of pages and how much content each page needs.
  • Template design versus a design made for your business.
  • Whether you want to update content yourself through an admin login.
  • Logins for customers, students or patients.
  • Online payments through UPI, cards or netbanking.
  • Two languages, for example Hindi and English.
  • Who writes the text and who takes the photos.
  • Basic SEO setup, such as page titles, Google Business Profile link and fast loading.
  • How long support lasts after launch.

Yearly running costs in India

The build is a one-time cost. Running the site is a yearly cost. Ask any developer to list these clearly before you start.

  • Domain name (.com or .in): roughly ₹700 to ₹1,500 a year. Watch the renewal price, which is often higher than the first-year offer.
  • Hosting: shared hosting starts from roughly ₹150 a month. Busier sites, web apps and portals need better hosting that costs more.
  • SSL certificate (the padlock in the browser): usually free with good hosting.
  • Business email like name@yourshop.in: optional. Some hosting plans include basic email. Google Workspace or Zoho Mail are charged per user, per month.

For a normal small business website, domain plus shared hosting usually comes to roughly ₹2,500 to ₹5,000 a year in total.

Hidden costs people forget

  • Content and photos: if nobody writes the text or takes good photos, the site looks empty. A local photographer for a half-day shoot is an extra cost, but it makes a big difference for clinics, shops and restaurants.
  • Payment gateway fees: most Indian gateways charge around 2% per transaction on cards and netbanking, plus GST on that fee. UPI is often cheaper. Check your gateway's current rates.
  • Maintenance: plugin and security updates, backups and small text changes. Some developers charge monthly, some per change.
  • Redesign later: a cheap site that cannot be edited often gets rebuilt in a year or two, which means paying twice.

Red flags with ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 website offers

You will see offers on Facebook, Justdial and WhatsApp for a full website at ₹3,000 to ₹5,000. Some are honest. Many cut corners in ways you only discover later.

  • The domain is registered in the freelancer's name, not yours. If you fall out, you can lose your own web address.
  • The template is copied or pirated, so it never gets security updates and can be hacked.
  • No admin login, so every small change means calling and waiting.
  • Hosting is on the freelancer's own account. When they stop paying or disappear, your site disappears too.
  • No written quote, so the price grows halfway through.
  • No clear answer on who owns the code and files.

Ask this before you pay anything

Whose name will the domain and hosting be in, and will I get the login details? If the answer is not "yours", walk away, whatever the price.

  • Business Website, from ₹15,999: a static or WordPress site of up to 8 pages, ready in 1 to 2 weeks, with 30 days of free support. Good for a shop, clinic, hotel or local service that mainly needs to be found on Google and get calls and WhatsApp messages.
  • Dynamic Website with Admin Login, from ₹24,999: custom-coded, with your own dashboard to add or edit pages, posts, photos, offers and products, plus staff logins and enquiries saved in one place. Good for a coaching centre or school that wants to post notices, results and admission updates themselves. Usually 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Web App or Portal, from ₹69,999: logins for students, patients or customers, bookings, orders or fee records, UPI, card and netbanking payments, and an admin panel. Good for an institute that wants online fee payment and student logins, or a clinic that wants online appointment booking. Usually 4 to 6 weeks, with 90 days of support.
  • Custom CRM, from ₹79,999: a leads pipeline, staff roles, dashboards and import from your existing spreadsheets. Good for a business with a sales or counselling team that is losing track of enquiries. Usually 4 to 5 weeks, with 60 days of support. Read more in what is a custom CRM.

Online stores are quoted after a short call, because the cost depends heavily on the number of products and how you deliver.

Two worked examples from Bihar

These are illustrative budgets to show how the numbers add up. They are not real clients.

A small clinic in Motihari

The doctor wants patients to find the clinic on Google, see timings and fees, and tap to call or WhatsApp. That means about 5 pages: home, about the doctor, services, timings and location, and contact. Hindi and English text would help. A Business Website covers this, from ₹15,999 with GrowVibe. Running costs would be roughly ₹3,000 to ₹4,000 a year for domain and hosting. Linking the site to the clinic's Google Business Profile matters as much as the site itself, so see our local SEO checklist. If the clinic later wants online appointment booking with advance payment, that moves into the Web App range.

A coaching institute in Patna

The institute wants to post batch timings, toppers, test results and holiday notices without calling a developer each time. That points to a Dynamic Website with Admin Login, from ₹24,999. If they also want students to log in, see their fee status and pay by UPI, that is a portal, from ₹69,999. With better hosting for many student logins, yearly running costs could be roughly ₹6,000 to ₹15,000, plus about 2% gateway fees on card and netbanking payments. Many institutes start with the dynamic site and add the portal the next session.

One-time build vs monthly builder subscription: the rupee maths

A builder plan looks cheaper because you pay a small amount each month. Here is how it looks over 5 years, using rough, illustrative numbers:

  • Builder plan at roughly ₹600 a month: ₹7,200 a year, or ₹36,000 over 5 years. You still do all the work yourself, and you own nothing at the end.
  • One-time build at ₹20,000 plus roughly ₹3,500 a year for domain and hosting: ₹37,500 over 5 years. The site, domain and code are yours, and you can move host any time.

The totals end up close. The difference is ownership, a design made for your business, and not spending your own evenings building the site. A builder still makes sense if you are just testing an idea for a few months. For a business that plans to be around for years, a one-time build you own is usually the better deal.
